Final Piece

My View and Experience on Relationships
-about love and the flow of relationships/my relationship
-starts off slow, then things start to pick up
-eventually you have to make the commitment to dive in and go for it
-it’s a huge risk and then you end up falling in love
-things seem fast paced and always exciting for a while at first and life seems perfect
-regular life begins to set in again and things don’t always seem like you are on cloud nine
-things get confusing and you wonder why things aren’t the way they used to be cause it’s not always crazy and exciting anymore
-this causes a lot of stress and huge blow out fights
-your heart get broken and you feel like you will never be the same again and almost feel like you are going crazy
-you decide you need to move on from the past even though you are still broken
-then the cycle restarts again, whether it is with the same person, or someone new

Symbolism in Video
-flower blooming new life beginning
-related relationships to skydiving and concerts and the way I feel when doing both of those things

Skydiving
-walking up and getting ready to jump out of the plane-about to dive into a relationship and it’s scary as hell and your heart is racing faster than ever

-the jump out of the plane-taking the risk to fall in love, things are no longer in your control anymore

-the first part of the fall before the chute opens-things are still going fast and extremely exciting and surreal

-the chute opens-things calm down and real life begins to set in

-spinning-life starts to get confusing and stressful and scary and you don’t know what will happen

-heading towards the ground-the relationship is ending and things are falling apart like you could have never imaged, seems like you will never be able to make it through it and all you want to be is at the top right after the jump again

-landing-you realize that the experience is over and you need to move on from the past even though you are broken and start the process again

Concert

-the lights are beginning to come on and things are just about to get exciting-beginning stage of relationship

-big light explosion-about to fall in love

-throwing your hands up-surrendering yourself and letting your guard down

-climax of the concert-being in love and life always feels like a party

-flames dying down at end of show-confusion setting in

-used flames throughout it to show the explosions that happened at first and then when they died down at the end

Cars

-cars going fast at the beginning of relationship and middle

-slowing down when real life sets in

-when things start to get bad I chose a clip where a car is driving down the road and on one of the signs it says “Leeds” which is where I used to live in England and I hadn’t even realized that the clip had that in it until when I originally downloaded it, but at that point in my life and relationship I was going through a battle of what to do, I wanted to run back to Leeds where my life used to be perfect, but I still had hope things could possibly get better

-the end clip of the car driving away was watching the other person go away from me

Song

-chose to use the same song as I did in the previous video I made because it’s the song that came on right after my first huge blowout fight with my ex and I remember falling to the floor with this song blaring and I feel like it shows my feelings

Project 2

After spending a long time looking at video art other people have done and exploring different ideas I finally came up with one that I was passionate about. Throughout this project one of the things that I really learned was how important it is to pinpoint your passion and then create your art from there. I had originally wanted to create some sort of mysterious creepy video with strange effects, but once I began working on it I completely changed my mind. I realized that this idea in my head of creating a twisted eerie video was simply only an idea, and there was no passion at all in the project what so ever. I was concentrated more on how the video would look, rather than the feeling that I was trying to express through the video.

I decided to make my video about taking little things for granted. It's easy for people to get caught up in a fast paced exciting lifestyle and completely forget about the most important things.

I tried to depict this concept through a series of different video clips. The first half of my video shows all the club and concerts scenes in color, and simple times in black and white. I wanted this to exemplify a skewed mindset of life only being in color when things are fast paced and crazy. The simple times clips in black and white show how little things may not stand out or seem important when a person is only concentrated on living a crazy life. Towards the middle of the video I used YooouuuTuuube to create a video clip of a club scene that splits into a bunch of different screens and goes into a crazy effect that ends in a different outside scene with flowers. I wanted this to symbolize someone's mind being scrambled then realizing that the way they used to look at things was completely wrong. After this point all the clips that were previously in black and white are now shown again, but in color, and the color clips switch to being in black and white.

I am happy with the way my video came out and hope that it gets the point across that I was trying to make. I also feel that this project has taught me a ton about the importance of passion in art.

First Project

For this project I wanted to see how random people would react to different signs that I put up. I started off by putting up a sign on a door that could only be opened by scanning a card that said "Door broken. Knock twice before opening!" I got a few interesting reactions from that sign, but not as many as I had hoped. Most of the people either didn't attempt to even open the door and stepped back and waited for someone else to, or just ignored the sign. I then decided to test peoples reaction to a completely different sign. I wrote out two signs that said "Make sure to with the RA happy birthday!" and placed them in an elevator in Straz, and outside of one of the doors. I wanted to see the reaction of the students that read the sign (whether or not they would wish the RA at the bottom of Straz happy birthday) and I also wanted to see the reaction of the RA when random students started wishing her happy birthday. I sat at a table near the RA's desk and set my computer up to make it look like I was doing homework on it, when I was actually recording the scene.

Soon after I put up the sign in the elevator someone who knew the RA on duty said something to her about it and asked if it was her birthday. No one had any clue who put the sign up and the RA thought it was hilarious. I waited about 30 minutes to put another sign up outside also, and when people saw these signs they started wishing her happy birthday. I thought it was hilarious that the RA started telling people that it actually was her birthday and even when people walked in and said "is it someones birthday here?" she said "yes its mine!"

This showed me the way that people react when they see something that says it's someone's birthday, even if they don't know them, or know if it actually is their birthday or not. It also showed me how the RA reacted to the people wishing her happy birthday when it wan't even her birthday.
