First Project

For this project I wanted to see how random people would react to different signs that I put up. I started off by putting up a sign on a door that could only be opened by scanning a card that said "Door broken. Knock twice before opening!" I got a few interesting reactions from that sign, but not as many as I had hoped. Most of the people either didn't attempt to even open the door and stepped back and waited for someone else to, or just ignored the sign. I then decided to test peoples reaction to a completely different sign. I wrote out two signs that said "Make sure to with the RA happy birthday!" and placed them in an elevator in Straz, and outside of one of the doors. I wanted to see the reaction of the students that read the sign (whether or not they would wish the RA at the bottom of Straz happy birthday) and I also wanted to see the reaction of the RA when random students started wishing her happy birthday. I sat at a table near the RA's desk and set my computer up to make it look like I was doing homework on it, when I was actually recording the scene.

Soon after I put up the sign in the elevator someone who knew the RA on duty said something to her about it and asked if it was her birthday. No one had any clue who put the sign up and the RA thought it was hilarious. I waited about 30 minutes to put another sign up outside also, and when people saw these signs they started wishing her happy birthday. I thought it was hilarious that the RA started telling people that it actually was her birthday and even when people walked in and said "is it someones birthday here?" she said "yes its mine!"

This showed me the way that people react when they see something that says it's someone's birthday, even if they don't know them, or know if it actually is their birthday or not. It also showed me how the RA reacted to the people wishing her happy birthday when it wan't even her birthday.
